What Can I do To Help Me Sleep Better?

January 16, 20242 min read

Our bodies are designed to heal themselves, and it all starts with sleep. How much sleep do we really need and what are things that will help improve the amount and quality of my sleep?

For most adults, our daily sleep goal should be 7-8 hours with dreaming. If you are not getting that, consider trying the following bedtime routine:

Determine your best bedtime based on your habits and work schedule and try to begin winding down 1 hour prior to that time. Reading a book that inspires you or listening to music that relaxes you may help you get ready for sleep, instead of watching TV. Try to begin this routine approximately the same time each night when possible.

Turn off the wi-fi router and the TV. Turn off your phone or have it far from your bed, not on the nightstand or in your bed. What you are doing with these steps are eliminating effects of bad Electromagnetic Frequencies.

Take a bath with Lavender Bath Salts or essential oils

Create and write in a daily gratitude Journal

Turn off all lights. Make sure your bedroom is very dark.

Before you sleep, try engaging in prayer and/or practice meditation

Some people find that white noise, very soft music or nature sounds can assist you in falling asleep, there are various devices you can purchase that offer a variety of sounds that can be beneficial. I like the sound of rain or rhythmic waves, but anything that relaxes you can work.

Following most or all of the above suggestions may be essential to help your body prepare for sleep. Have patience and give yourself some time to implement them into your bedtime routine for several nights to form a habit.

If you are still having problems sleeping, consider looking into teas, oils or natural substances such as magnesium or melatonin supplements about an hour before bedtime that can be included in the above routine to help you relax and fall asleep. I am evaluating some products and will try to create another blog discussing them. Making a sleep log may be of some help, include things like do you have trouble falling asleep, do you wake up in the middle of the night and do you remember dreaming? The quality and quantity of your sleep will influence all aspects of your life including your health and relationships!
